ICYMI: Empowered by Beauty

This past Thursday, March 11, Aurum hosted their first event of the semester! The Empowered by Beauty panel featured four women killing it in the beauty industry who gave us a glimpse of their career journey, some advice, and much more! Our panelists came from companies including Rare Beauty, Fenty Beauty, Benefit Cosmetics, and FORMA Brands! If you couldn’t make it, don’t worry! Here’s a quick recap of the event!

Our Panelists

The event began with an introduction of our panelists. Sarah Boutin works for Benefit Cosmetics as Senior Director for Global Copy & Story. Think of Sarah when reading almost anything from Benefit Cosmetics, from the words on advertisements, short blurbs on products, and much more! Next, we had Grace Lim, a Director of Brand & Product Marketing, over at Rare Beauty. Grace had mentioned she’s always enjoyed makeup, which led her to attend FIDM after obtaining her bachelor’s degree over at UC Irvine! Kate Mercier works for FORMA Brands, including brands such as Morphe, Jaclyn Cosmetics, and Lipstick Queen. As a VP of Global Marketing, she works on the planning and placing of a product. It’s all about strategic thinking that will lead to positive outcomes for the company. Lastly, Nanette Wong works for the iconic Fenty Beauty as a Director of Global Integrated Marketing. During her time at Fenty, she was apart of the biggest launches in beauty history by developing and executing the launch!

Empowering Women

We asked them if any mentors empowered them or guided them through their journey, and most said yes! Some even mentioned that there were people they received guidance from that already had a sort of “career plan” for them even when they themselves, didn’t know. The panelists return the favor by empowering others; some mention that now, it’s challenging to keep up with relationships with those who work with them with everything online. However, they praise and appreciate the ideas of everyone. They encourage them to speak up; they empower them.

Towards the end of our event, participants got the opportunity to join breakout rooms for a more personalized Q&A session. If you missed out on this amazing opportunity to hear about our four amazing panelists’ experience in the beauty industry, make sure to like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram, or sign up for our newsletter to be informed of future events!

With love,
