Three Habits of People with Amazing, Glowing Skin

Many people are under the impression that a great complexion comes with a diverse selection of lavish skincare and cosmetic products. However, what people fail to realize is that glowing, healthy skin doesn’t start with an expensive product; it begins with a meticulous skincare routine.

The daily habits people incorporate into their routine play a significant role on the overall appearance and quality of their skin. While genetics may have an impact on your complexion, it is essential that you set yourself up for success in maintaining your skin’s health. Whether it’s to control the amount of acne you experience or prevent wrinkles from forming, here are three skincare habits that you should embrace in your skincare routine.

Habit #1: Instead of using wipes to remove your makeup, try washing your face instead.

Although makeup-remover wipes provide a quick and easy solution to cleaning your skin, it doesn’t beat actually washing your face. This habit is pretty straightforward, but it can also work wonders for your skin. Everyday, our skin sheds approximately 50 million cells. Makeup wipes allow millions of dead skin cells to accumulate on the surface of your skin, leaving your complexion looking tired and dull. This means that the products we apply to our skin afterwards can’t penetrate the blocked pores, making them less effective overall. Getting your skin clean is the imperative, and double cleansing is even better to ensure all of your makeup and any impurities are removed!

Washing your face should not have to be a laborious process. Incorporating a cleanser that has moisturizing and skin-brightening properties and ingredients (such as lactic and glycolic acid). Once you find a cleanser you enjoy, you can stick to it easily and blend it into your morning and nighttime routines for getting ready for class and bed.

Habit #2: Massage your skin every night before you go to bed to prevent wrinkles.

As we grow older, so does our fears and trepidations surrounding wrinkles. According to a clinical study out of UCLA (boo), a facial massage has significant impact on not only relaxing the skin, but also in promoting anti-aging skin effects. This strategy aids in further enhancing blood circulation throughout the skin, as nutrients and other detoxifying minerals are better distributed to the skin cells.

Before you go to bed each night, try pressing and rubbing on your brows, the sides of your nose, temples, undereyes and the high points of your cheekbones for 5-10 minutes.

Habit #3: Invest in a good sunscreen.

Though relatively simple, this habit is often easier said than done. Extended exposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays can create adverse effects on overall skin health, as it impairs the elasticity and collagen production levels of skin tissue, resulting in premature wrinkles and sagging. According to one study, approximately 90 percent of skin-related issues such as wrinkles, stretching, discoloration, and age spots result from unprotected UV exposure. Additionally, in extreme cases, prolonged exposure may also cause skin cancer.

To protect your skin from the sun, it is absolutely essential that you invest in a good sunscreen and apply it daily when going out. A good sunscreen product needs to be SPF 30 or higher, water-resistant, and protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Make sure to apply the product 15 minutes before you are in direct contact with sunlight, and reapply every two hours as necessary if you’re really going to be outdoors for the day.
